A luxury retail chain Luxury Retail
Computer Vision for Retail
Rethinking inventory management and the in-store experience for a luxury retail chain.
The problem.
A high-end retail chain with stores across major metropolitan areas was struggling with inventory management, loss prevention, and delivering personalized shopping experiences. Manual inventory processes were slow and error-prone, leading to stockouts of popular items and overstocking of others. The chain also wanted to enhance the in-store experience with personalized recommendations but lacked the technology to identify customer preferences efficiently.
The approach.
Smart inventory management
We deployed AI-powered cameras throughout the stores that track inventory in real time, detecting when items are removed from shelves, identifying specific products, and updating counts accordingly.
Visual merchandising analysis
The system analyzes how customers interact with displays and products, revealing which arrangements and placements generate the most interest and conversion.
Loss prevention
Object detection algorithms identify suspicious behavior patterns and potential theft, alerting security personnel in real time.
Customer experience enhancement
We implemented opt-in recognition that identifies returning customers and their preferences, letting associates offer personalized recommendations through a custom mobile app.
Heat mapping and traffic analysis
The system generates heat maps of store traffic, helping optimize layouts and staffing based on peak times and high-traffic areas.
The outcome.
- Real-time, vision-based inventory tracking replaced slow manual counts, reducing the stockouts and overstocking that came from error-prone processes.
- Merchandising and traffic insights gave the chain an evidence base for layout, staffing, and personalization decisions it previously made on intuition.
